Job Title: Heritage Interpreter
Location: Central BC Railway & Forestry Museum – 850 River Road
Terms: Temporary full-time position*. Between May – August
*dependent on funding
Salary/Rate: $17.50 hour at 35 hours a week.
Requirements: A regular work week will include weekends

About the Role:
The successful candidate(s) would work under the supervision of the Programming and Marketing Manager. They would assist in running, researching and developing tours and programming.

  • Leading tours and programming
    Familiarizing oneself with tour and programming information
  • Researching and developing technology-based tours for multiple age groups
  • Booking events and programming
  • Assisting with event prep, set up and take down
  • Assisting running summer events
  • Developing and building props and sets for off-season events
  • Running birthday parties (games, activities, set-up, etc.)
  • Maintaining and restoring holiday lighting displays
  • Stripping and refinishing wood mantle
  • Assist with minirail operations when needed

Candidate Requirements:

  • Canadian citizen, Permanent resident or have refugee status
  • Able to work full contract term
  • Interest in local history/heritage/education
  • Fluent in English, second language an asset
  • Ability to work outside in all conditions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Access/Publisher)
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Ability to lift, move and carry 20 kg.
  • Ability to function effectively in ever-changing environment and deal with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to effectively and confidently lead small and large tours
